Want to compare notes with other beaders while getting advice from one of our teachers?  Call to register for our next Beading Society Meeting on Friday July 27.
Beading Society – Next Meeting July 27

The Beadworks White Plains Beading Society was started in June in response to requests from customers. This is simply a forum where beaders can get together to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and listen to featured speakers. The second meeting will be held Friday July 27 at 9:00 am at the shop. (Feel free to bring your coffee and a bagel.)

We will have demonstrations and examples of two very different techniques: (1) Pat Riesner will demonstrate how to make this beautiful heart out of Swarovski bicones; and (2) Pam Confalone will explain how to hammer and shape sterling wire to wrap a pendant.

For first time attendees, the fee is $30.00 – please call to register in advance. This entitles you to a one year membership. Meetings are free of charge to members, unless we bring in an outside speaker. For now, the group meets the last Friday of each month at 9:00 am.

The mission of the Beading Society is to provide a forum for beading enthusiasts to learn more about beading in whatever form this takes. We urge members to bring samples of their work to share, photographs or copies of advertisements of interesting pieces or techniques, and come prepared to ask questions of one another or our staff. At each meeting, we will discuss what the group would like to include in the subsequent meetings - the direction of the Society is driven by its members. If you plan to attend, please bring something to share with the group!

New at Beadworks – Dichroic Glass Pendants

We just received a limited number of dichroic glass pendants from a local artist. If you’ve never seen dichroic glass, and you love color, you’re in for a treat.

Originally developed by NASA for use in satellite mirrors, it has become a popular material used by glass artists today. The luminous beauty of dichroic glass is due to its very thin layers of metal oxides such as magnesium and titanium. These thin layers of oxides have a total thickness of three to five millionths of an inch.

Think of the colors you can see in soap bubbles, but much more brilliant – this is the concept of dichroic glass. Light passing through dichroic glass transmits one color, while light bouncing off dichroic glass reflects another color. The technique is very demanding, and no two beads are the same, so a dichroic pendant is truly a ‘one of a kind’ keepsake.

I look forward to seeing you in BEADWORKS soon. If you have any feedback on how we can serve you better, please let me know by emailing me at nancy@beadworkswp.com
